Trophy Best of St. Augustine

Thank you for voting us "The Best of St. Augustine" two years in a row.

We are proud to introduce our dedicated veterinarians.

Dr. Kathleen Deckard

Kathleen Deckard is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1999 from the University of Florida then joined the practice. She enjoys all areas of medicine and soft tissue surgery and has had advanced training in abdominal ultrasound. She has a special interest in exotic pet animals and also donates much of her time caring for injured and sick wildlife.

When she is not caring for her patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her two toddlers. The rest of her family includes 2 dogs, Chelsea and Marlee, and her 3 legged cat, Soprano. In her free time she enjoys cooking, fishing, scuba diving and tennis.

Dr. Brooke Burkhalter

Dr. Brooke Burkhalter is a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine where she obtained her DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Although a native Floridian, she remains a Georgia Bulldog at heart!

Dr. Burkhalter has a special interest in kidney diseases. Kidney failure is an unfortunate, yet common disease of our animal friends. This interest stems from several personal losses she has experienced. Dr. Burkhalter also has strong interests in abdominal ultrasound and soft tissue surgery.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Burkhalter enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter. She and her family avidly enjoy the outdoors. While boating and fishing are her favorite past times, she also enjoys camping and most other outdoor activities.

Dr. Jeanine Wihbey

Dr Wihbey headshot Dr. Wihbey attended the University of Florida graduating with a Bachelors in Animal Science, a Masters in Animal Nutrition, and finally a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Her veterinary interests include preventative care, obesity management, and nutrition. She also has special interests in liver disease and diabetes management.

She is happily married with three lovely daughters. Her family also includes dogs (a Labrador, a Chow mix, and a mixed breed she brought back from the Bahamas) and 1 cat. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and seeing all the sites around St. Augustine with her daughters.

Dr. Sam English

Dr. Sam English is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. A native of Canada, she has lived in Florida since earning her DVM in 2006. Her veterinary interests include ophthalmology and constantly expanding her soft tissue surgery skills. She also enjoys seeing the wild birds that enter the clinic before they move on to a rehabilitation centre.

Dr. English has a golden retriever named Buster who is a testament to what great dogs can be found at a shelter. She also has two Siamese mixes, Gator and Java. In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, surfing, and kayaking. She has trained for and successfully completed the Disney Marathon.
